Purpose:

To evaluate the compatibility between changes in NIR-AF changes and leakage zone in fluorescence angiography (FA) in Central Serous Chorioretinopathy(CSC)

Methods:

A total of 48 eyes from 43 patients with acute CSC that was documented with FA and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT) were included. In addition to FA, NIR-AF and short-wavelength fundus autofluorescence. Outer retinal layer alterations in OCT images and location of leakage in fluorescein angiography were analyzed and correlated with the corresponding NIR-AF data in 30 central degree area.

Results:

In 33 eyes abnormal NIR-AF changes were exactly compatible with location of fluorescence leakage in FA. Although in fifteen eyes the changes were relatively in same area. There was a significant association between the NIR-AF changes and FA leakage zone during acute phase in CSC patients (P < 0.05). NIR-AF showed suprafoveal hypofluorescent points surrounded by a ring of hyper-autofluorescence corresponding exactly with PEDs. Subretinal fluid was directly correlated with hyper-autofluorescence in NIR-AF.

Conclusion:

Location of leakage in CSC patients during acute phase can be predicted by analyzing both short- wavelength AF and near-infrared AF images. Abnormal changes in the NIR- AF image were compatible with FA changes.
