Purpose:
Multidrug resistance glycoprotein and multi-drug resistance associated proteins 1, encoded by MDR1 and MRP1 genes are two common members of the human ABC transporters to mediate multidrug resistance in cancer therapy. These proteins confer drug resistance by decreasing their intracellular concentrations. The aim of this study was to examine putative correlation between 2 genotypes of MDR1 and 2 genotypes of MRP1 and clinicopathological findings and treatment outcomes in a retinoblastoma (Rb) patients.
Methods:
Blood sample from 26 patients (17 (65.4%) Male, 9 (34.6%) female), mostly in stage d, c and E treated with systemic chemotherapy drug were selected. PCR and sequencing was used to detect polymorphisms.
Results:
No significant correlation was observed between analyzed genotypes and drug response.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the present study suggests that MDR1 and MRP1 polymorphisms cannot be used as a marker to predict response to chemotherapy in RB patients.
