Purpose:
To evaluate the outcome of glaucoma surgery in patients with Fuchs heterochromic iridocyclitis
Methods:
27 eyes of 26 patients (14 male and 12 female) with medically uncontrolled glaucoma that undergone glaucoma surgery (13 eyes with trabeculectomy and 14 eyes with Ahmed Glaucoma Valve surgery) with Fuchs Heterochromic Iridocyclitis were enrolled in this study. Any complications were recorded at the end of each examination and the success rates of surgeries were assessed. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 20 and P value lower than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results:
In this retrospective study 26 patients with mean age of 44.92+_9.02 years ( range 40-58) in trabeculectomy group and 45.76 +_ 7.1 years ( range 34-60) in AGV group (P= 0.79) were enrolled. Mean preoperative IOP was 26.92+_7.02 mmHg ( range 18-38) with 2.15+_1.34 ( range 0-4) number of IOP lowering and 18.53+_5.09 ( range 6-18) at last visit (p=0.000), in trabeculectomy group and mean preoperative IOP was 32.92+_11.52 mmHg ( range 16-60) with 2.30+_1.31 ( range 0-4) number of IOP lowering medications and 11.61+_4.15 ( range 10-30) at last visit (p=0.000), in AGV group. There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative IOP between 2 groups at month 6 after surgery and at last visit (p = 0.11 and p=0.26 respectively). Based on our definitions for success, there was more complete success in trabeculectomy group according criterion A and B (p=0.03 , p=0.025) but there was no statistically significant difference in cumulative success between two groups neither according criterion A nor criterion B (p=0.32 , p=0.16) at month 6. The similar results were in last visit. (p=0.013 , P = 0.008 for complete success and p=0. 24 , P = 0.08 for cumulative success)
Conclusion:
In this retrospective study there was no any statistically significant difference in cumulative success between trabeculectomy and AGV surgery in Fuchs Heterochromic Iridocyclitis.
