Purpose:
The aim of this study was to compare the visual field test results in glaucoma suspects or early primary open-angle glaucoma obtained via the Humphrey matrix 24-2 threshold program and standard automated perimetry (SAP) using the Swedish interactive threshold algorithm (SITA)-Standard 24-2 test.
Methods:
This cross-sectional study included 46 healthy eyes from 46 glaucoma-suspect subjects or patients with early primary open-angle glaucoma who underwent both Humphery standard automated perimetry (SAP) and Matrix frequency doubling technology (FDT) perimetry visual field testing in random order. Visual field test reliability indices, test duration, global indices (mean deviation [MD], and pattern standard deviation [PSD]) and sensitivity threshold in supranasal, supratemporal, inferanasal and infratemporal quadrants were compared between the 2 tests using the paired t-test.To evaluate agreement between two techniques pearson's correlation index, intra cluster correlation (ICC) and Kappa index were used.
Results:
Forty six participants who werw glaucoma suspect or have early open angel glaucoma with mean age of 53±15/8 years (range from 18 years to 78 years) were included in the study.
The test duration was significantly less on the Matrix than Humphrey.(387,482 seconds,respectively)(p<0.001,paired t-test).
MD ( mean deviation )and PSD (pattern standard deviation) values obtained by FDT and SAP were not significantly different ( p=0.905, p=0.169 respectively) but evaluation the agreement of global indices of two perimeters showed poor correlation. MD(95% CI:-0.94 to 1.06, ICC:0.057, LOA -6.56 to 6.76) and PSD(95% CI:-1.24 to 0.22, ICC:0.24, LOA:-5.4 to 4.4).
comparision of mean threshold for four quadrant and totally for two perimeters showed weak correlation.
(GHT) values in two perimeters was correlated only in 48.8% of cases ,fixation losses and false positive errors didn't have significant difference between two perimeters ,but false negative errors were significant Low by Matrix (p<0.001)
Conclusion:
: FDT is faster and less conflicted by errors, but the FDT and SAP perimetry can not be used interchangeably in people who are glaucoma-suspect or have early glaucoma.
